Golden light, Wellington city views and two people who made photographing them ridiculously good fun.
Jade and Tyler brought a little South African warmth to a very Wellington afternoon when I photographed the two of them together in their wedding attire.
We headed out while the light was getting low, giving us that beautiful golden glow over the city and plenty of time to create a collection of romantic wedding portraits that still felt relaxed and completely like them.
And these two definitely weren’t interested in taking themselves too seriously.
Golden hour wedding portraits in Wellington
There are few things I love more than beautiful evening light.
As the sun started dropping over Wellington, we made the most of the softer light and incredible views across the city, creating portraits that felt romantic and considered without everything becoming overly posed.
I’ll always guide you into the good light and give direction when you need it, but once everything is in place, I want there to be room for the two of you to actually interact.
Jade and Tyler made that part particularly easy.
Romantic doesn’t have to mean serious
Some couples naturally fall into quiet, romantic moments.
Others will give you approximately four seconds of romance before somebody starts laughing.
Both photograph beautifully.
Jade and Tyler gave me plenty of both. We created those gorgeous, intimate portraits alongside photographs full of movement, laughter and the personality that makes the two of them work so well together.
Because beautiful wedding photography doesn’t require you to suddenly become a more serious version of yourselves.
A little South Africa, a little Aotearoa
South Africa is an important part of Jade and Tyler’s story, while New Zealand has become another chapter of it.
I love that photographs can quietly hold pieces of all of that.
Not through elaborate setups or trying to make every image deeply meaningful, but simply by photographing people together in a place that forms part of their life now.

Jade and Tyler had possibly one of my favourite reviews afterwards:

Which tells you a reasonable amount about the energy of these two.
Being photographed shouldn’t feel like spending an hour trying desperately not to look awkward.
I want you to feel comfortable enough to laugh, move, be affectionate, be ridiculous when the mood calls for it and forget about the camera every now and then.
That’s usually where the photographs that feel most like you are hiding.
